The Committee commends the State party for ratifying the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women without reservations. It expresses its appreciation to the State party for its combined initial, second, and third periodic report, which followed the Committee’s guidelines for the preparation of reports, but which was long overdue and did not provide enough statistical data disaggregated by sex. The Committee expresses its appreciation to the State party for the oral presentation, the written replies to the list of issues and questions raised by its pre-session working group, and the further clarifications to the questions orally posed by the Committee.
The Committee commends the State party for its high-level delegation, headed by the Minister of Justice and Social Welfare, and which included representatives of different government departments with expertise in a broad range of areas covered by the Convention. The Committee appreciates the frank and constructive dialogue that took place between the delegation and the members of the Committee.
The Committee congratulates the State party for its accession, on 17 May 2007, to the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
The Committee notes with appreciation that the report was prepared in a participatory process involving government bodies and non-governmental organizations.
